Uefa Champions League season 2008-2009

Who do you think will win the Uefa Champions league this year? Any ideas? Any thoughts about some of the games that were already played or for some of that games that will follow? Post them in this topic.

Just a quick tutorial for those of you who don't know what the Uefa Champions League is.This is the biggest competition for soccer in Europe. Only the top teams manage to qualify in this competition.

There are 32 teams each divided into 8 groups. Each group has 4 teams. Each team will play against the other teams in there group two games: One home and one away game. For every match that they win, a team receives 3 points.
If they draw in a match both teams receive 1 point and if they lose they receive no points.

The first two teams who finish on top of each group will go through to the Knockout stages. The teams that comes on 3rd in each group goes to play in the Knockout stages of the Uefa cup (which is a cup similar to the Champions league but not as big as this one)
The team that comes 4th in every group will be eliminated from the competition.

The other 16 teams are drawn to play each other in the Knockout round. Each team will play against another team two matches(one home and one away game). At the end of the two games that team with the best overall score wins. If teams end in a draw the away goal rule(the team that scored the most goals in the away game wins) is used. If they are still tied after this they play two short half's of 15 minutes each., if they are still equal they go to a penalty shootout where one team will be the winner.

The winner of the matches go to the next Knockout round(the Quarterfinals) where they use the same rules as the previous knockout round.
The winner of the Quarterfinals go into the Semifinals where again they use the same rules as in the Quarterfinals.
Then only two teams will remain which will play the Final. The final only has one match and if they draw they play two short half's of 15 minutes each. If they are still equal they go into the penalty shootout which will decide the winner of the Uefa Champions League trophy.

Oooh Joe , There was a server issue with Forumotion and all posts from Sunday have disappeared never to be seen again.. True Story. There was chaos all up and down the support forum. Still is actually, everyone scrambling to get their forums fixed and these glitches gone. Wham

Thank god nothing drastic ever really happens to The Realm though, I'm lucky I guess. Wink

Has I said earlier - I think the English clubs still look the safest bet for the Champions League this year & any of the Big 4 are capable of beating anyone else in europe.

I'd love to see Arsenals attacking style of football show everyone how "The Beautiful Game" should really be played !
They were awesome against Porto on Tuesday.

But Man Utd, Chelsea & Liverpool are all more likely to win than the Spanish duo or the Italian mafioso.

I agree with you Joe. I also think one of the big 4 England teams will win the Champions League this season. I personally would love to see Arsenal winning it since they have very good players and considering the average age of the team players they are amazing.
And in my opinion Arsène Wenger is one of the best managers in the world if not the best because of the amazing way he finds young and amazingly talented players.i really think he deserves to win at least one time the Uefa Champions League.

Arsenal thrash Porto, but then they lose to Hull & only scrape a draw with Sunderland.
How can they be potential Champions League winners?

That just shows the bizarre nature of football results!

I agree with you. I couldn't believe when they lost to Hull but like Wenger said "If we play 100 games against Hull we win 99 of them". To bad it was that one game that got the better of them.
Well I think they have the potential to win Champions league they just need to focus on there game.
