| In this topic we can discuss about the World Rally Championship (WRC).These are the latest results after the Finland Rally that just ended.I will update this post with leaderboard updates and Manufacturing after every rally. 2008 Drivers' championship standings Drivers' championship points are allocated to the top eight finishers on every round on a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis. If two or more drivers have the same number of points (including zero), their positions are fixed according to the quality of their finishes. Drivers' table notes: Points scored on each rally are shown on the table below. (Excl) excluded; (R) retired. Rallies completed, but outside the points, are written as (0). More detailed results of each rally can be found in the 'live stage times' section (on the home page). 2008 Manufacturers' championship standings Six teams are contesting the 2008 WRC manufacturers' championship. Teams nominate two cars per rally to score points for them. Points are allocated to the top eight nominated cars on a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis. If two or more manufacturer teams have the same number of points (including zero), their positions in the championship are fixed according to the quality of their finishes. Under this system one first place is better than any number of second places, one second place is better than any number of third places, and so on. | The last Rally was: Rally Finland
Between : 31/7 - 3/8/08 Based: Jyvaskyla
Surface: Gravel
Stages: 23 (in 2007)
2007 winner: Marcus Gronholm/Ford Focus RS WRC
Rally website: http://www.nesteoilrallyfinland.fi/en/
Formerly known as the 1000 Lakes, Neste Rally Finland is one of the most popular events on the WRC calendar. It's a fast gravel affair, with high-speed runs along tree-lined tracks, peppered with fast, flying 'yumps' that demand absolute, balls-out commitment.
Rally Finland is based in the bustling student town of Jyvaskyla, located in the lake district area of central Finland. To win here, you need a savvy combination of tactical nous, smooth and efficient technique and flat-out commitment to cope with the high speeds, fast kinks and mammoth jumps that litter the smooth, loose-surface stages. Over the years, the event has been dominated by the Scandinavians. They're used to driving on roads like these since they were knee-high to a grasshopper. That local experience counts. New for 2008
Finland is the only rally in the 2008 season that counts as a round of the WRC, J-WRC and P-WRC.
The next Rally will be: Rally Deutschland
Between: 15 - 17/8/08
Based: Trier
Surface: Asphalt
Stages: 19 (in 2007)
2007 winner: Sebastien Loeb/Citroen C4 WRC
Rally website: www.rallye-deutschland.de
The second asphalt rally of the season is held in Germany's wine-producing Mosel region, near to the historic city of Trier. This may be a pure asphalt event, but it has one of the widest variety of sealed surfaces on the calendar. As such, it's a tricky rally that demands the very best from drivers.
The stage conditions are different on each day. Friday is made up of narrow and dirty vineyard access roads that feature a mix of straights and hairpins, making handbrake turn skills essential. Saturday's stages are held on the rough concrete roads of the Baumholder military ranges, with the ever present hazard of huge concrete blocks designed to stop tanks straying from the road. The final day features smooth, fast bitumen-coated roads and the 'Circus Maximus' Superspecial that runs right through the heart of Trier's old city. All-in-all, it's a challenging mix. New for 2008
Organisers have dropped the remote service that featured on Friday's competition in 2007. Out of respect for churchgoers, the organisers have also cancelled a loop of the Trier Superspecial planned for Sunday morning.
So I can't wait for the rally in Germany. Who do you think will win? I think Sebastien Leob will win again since he is unbeatable ( So far) on asphalt rally's. | |

| Results from then Germany Rally: Next Rally is: New Zealand Rally Between: 28 - 31/8/08 Based: Hamilton Surface: Gravel Stages: 18 (in 2007) 2007 winner: Marcus Gronholm/Ford Focus RS WRC Rally website: www.rallynz.org.nz Repco Rally New Zealand is the oldest WRC event in the Southern Hemisphere and is renowned for its fast flowing gravel roads and the beautiful landscape of the country's North Island. Blind crests, fast jumps, flat-out kinks and huge cambers make the roads more challenging than most, but their sweeping, undulating nature means most WRC drivers love them. When it's sunny, the stages can be glorious, but when it rains, they can turn muddy and extremely slippery. You need to be brave to do well in New Zealand but the high speeds mean the slightest mistake is punished severely. The challenging terrain rewards the drivers with the very best car control. Since 2006 the rally has been based in the Waikato region of the country with its headquarters at the Mystery Creek Events Centre just south of Hamilton. | |
