| NFS Pro Street news:
05.06.07
EA: Tell us a little bit about yourself
I am Rob Meulenbroeks a 22 year web designer and graphics artist from the Netherlands. I've always been into the game industry and everything around it and its games of course, NFS is the only game franchise I've played for over 10 years now. It's one of the few race games I play actually. I mostly play other game genres such as action adventures, rpg's and the occasional fighter and racer.
EA: What do you do in the NFS Community? (explain)
I run the need for speed fan site ND4SPDWorld (www.nd4spdworld.com). ND4SPDWorld is known for its huge selection of NFS add-ons such as cars and tracks. I'm currently busy with a redevelopment of the site with the help of Mike Geise from NFSCars. I hope to be able to re-launch the site as soon as possible.
EA: Did you start the fan site? How has your experience been so far?
I launched the site on March 29th of 2000. The site grew forth out of interest for the game from me and a friend. We used to download cars from other sites with our slow modems at the time and exchanged them. I started messing around with some design stuff and html with simple programs and my friend was doing the same stuff. Before we knew it we launched our site. The site grew very rapidly back then and the site was one of the best visited fan sites by the time NFS:Hot Pursuit 2 hit the store shelves. Around the time Underground was about to be released my friend became preoccupied with other things in life and moved on; I've been managing the site alone ever since. It's been very hard to keep everything up to date for me ever since. But as I mentioned before, with the help of Mike Geise from NFSCars I am now redeveloping the site together with him. I hope this will give my site the boost it needs once everything is up and running.
EA: How long have you been playing the NFS franchise? I've been playing the game since NFS2 which was around 1997 or 1998, somehow I never got around to playing the first game (The Need For Speed) in the series. I've played every single instalment of the game ever since. My favorite game in the series is NFS:Hot Pursuit on the Playstation 2. I'm still playing that game today.
EA: How do you feel about the current state of the NFS community? What would you do different?
The communities have really changed over the years. Ever since the underground titles hit stores the communities grew massively but along with that the core nfs fans of the old games started leaving slowly. Seeing how I'm one of those so called veterans in the communities as well it's been hard to mix amongst this new generation of fans. Not to say this new generation is a bad thing. The communities are still growing bigger every time EA releases a new game. So its really interesting to see which kind of fans Pro Street will bring to the forums this year. Especially with the deep performance tuning part of the game, I'm sure some of the veterans will return to the forums again and hopefully stay around for a while again. The more racing fans the better, I just hope they will get along better, mostly it's been the muscle car fans vs. the tuner fans on the forums. Which made for some interesting arguments I must say.
EA: What is your favorite car class?
I like any car class really. I must be one of the few who really likes all classes it seems. There always is a big gap between the tuner car fans and muscle. But I think each class has its charms. I can't decide on a personal favourite as each class has their own great cars be it a Nissan Skyline GTR R34, Koenigsegg CCX or Hemi Cuda. They are all great cars in their own specific ways.
EA: What is the best ride you have ever built? (pictures?)
I've build multiple over the last couple games. One I remember best is probably the 240SX I played Underground 2 with. I sorry that I can't show it since I played the game on Playstation 2. But I tried to give it the clean look of a car like you would see in the anime Initial D, which I'm sure many of you have heard of. I made the car white with black touches such as black 5 spoke rims.
EA: Anything else?
I would like to thank EA for really putting effort into keeping in contact with the communities and really listen to the feedback coming from them.

| On May 30th, Electronic Arts flew in 8 of the top guys in the Need for Speed community to EA Black Box in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia. The purpose of this event was to show these guys, who represent the largest Need for Speed fansites on the net, the concepts and thinking behind ProStreet. Coming in a full day before the announcement was released to the public, the community guys witnessed first hand how truly different this Need for Speed is. The community leaders involved were :
Mike Geise - NFScars.net
Mike Henderson - NFSg.net
Bojan Puschner - NFSunlimited.net
Rob Meulenbroeks - nd4spdworld.com
Bernhard Schmidt - NFSplanet.com
Josh Allen - racerplanet.com
Dan Bertholomey - XBOX.com
Eric Guissepe - NeedforSpeed.com
When they arrived, the community leaders met Need for Speed ProStreet producer John Doyle who showed them the ideas and thinking behind the creation of ProStreet. They had some hands-on time with the game, and were able to ask questions and provide feedback based on their experiences dealing with their communities. This was a big homerun for the community folks because they were brought into the community day event to start the two-way method of questions and feedback. We really wanted to take their feedback very seriously as this was a new direction in the Need for Speed franchise.
he response from the community leaders was pretty positive considering they had never seen this type of game, let alone this type of Need for Speed before. Rob from nd4spdworld said that "even though there are no cops, I think you really have something going with ProStreet that will please Need for Speed fans old and new."
Some of the big hits that wowed the community leaders were the smoke and damage in the game. Even at such an early stage, the guys really were impressed asking if it was really the game they were actually playing. "This is the best smoke I've seen," Mike from nfsg.net said. "The damage is great, not too Burnout, but realistic damage," Bojan from nfsunlimited sharply pointed out. On the second day of the event, the community leaders had a community brainstorm session with me, the community manager. We really looked at where the Need for Speed community is at right now, and where we want to take it in the future. Some very interesting ideas came from that meeting that we are really excited to push out to you guys.
Overall, it was a fantastic event! The community leaders really took all of the information they were given, and hit the ground running with ideas for things they can do with their communities. Already, they have posted their articles on their community sites. For more information on the Need for Speed ProStreet community day, please visit their sites for recaps from the community leaders that attended.

| "In the Driver's Seat" For a new taste of what goes on in the NFS community, we are highlighting a new community spotlight piece. This week, Mike Henderson from nfsaddons.com! EA: Tell us a little bit about yourself MH: My name is Mike Henderson. I'm 24 years old and was born just outside Vancouver, BC (Langley to be exact, for anyone in that area). I'm currently living in San Diego, California where I do web development for a startup video company. EA: What do you do in the NFS Community? (explain) MH: I run the NFSAddons (formerly NFSGarage) website. EA: Did you start the fan site? How has your experience been so far? MH: I started the site a few weeks before NFS High Stakes came out, and the site launched July 4th, 1999. My experience has been great. Working on the site helped me expand my programming knowledge, which helped my resume and got me into the web development field. The community has been great, and even through a couple of server crashes where most of the data was lost, visitors understood and kept coming back. I have a few staff members now (Remko, mecha, BMWSport) that help with the daily operations of the site, which frees up my time for adding new features. EA: How long have you been playing the NFS franchise? MH: I have been playing since the beginning. I remember racing through the City track with a Toyota Supra. Ever since then I have been hooked and own every version of the game, including the often-forgotten NFS V-Rally. EA: How do you feel about the current state of the NFS community? What would you do different? MH: Honestly, I'm not a big fan of the current state of NFS. I haven't been playing NFS as much as I used to ever since Underground came out. While it was a necessary step in the evolution of the series, I think a lot of NFS veterans have left the community during the last 4 versions of the game. I do believe that ProStreet will convince a lot of them to come back, as well as retain the street-racing fans that Underground 1 and 2, Most Wanted and Carbon brought in. EA: What is your favorite car class? MH: I've always been a fan of old school American muscle, so I enjoy the Muscle class. Exotics are a close second, and then tuners. EA: What is the best ride you have ever built? (pictures?) MH: Probably the Camaro I built in Carbon . It's very quick, yet clean and almost a "sleeper". EA: Anything else? MH: I'll take this opportunity to thank EA for the interview, and for making a great series. Without it, NFSAddons wouldn't be around, and I might not have a job | |

| what is your video card? the only requirement vermin that I can see is that it should be at least running on shader model 2; which means it literally killed nvidia mx 4(?) series... i think if your using geforce 5 series or 9XXX series of ati, you can still play but with all settings tuned way down. but its again just a hunch because i ditch my old system last month which has a 9250 ati video card which can run carbon pretty decently. I'm currently stuck with the integrated video of my new board for the meantime because I'm waiting for a rumored price rollback this christmas... | |

| I have an GeForce FX 5200 video card with pixel shader 2.0 but when I played the demo( I turned all the video settings to the minimum but it still wasn't working properly. It was going very, very, very slow. Anyway I want to buy a new video card, I was thinking of something like a GeForce 7600 or 7800 GT. What do you think? | |

8600 GT or GTS is good to go. Plus its a DX10 card.
Good for vista games...
