| Death and Afterlife Debate
0. Quick Warnings Some people taking part in this debate may have witnessed death closer than you have. Likewise, if you have experienced loss, please accept that others may not be able to understand or fully comprehend. Concerning afterlife, different religions and beliefs induce different thoughts, we ask you accept that views may differ if not even contradict your own. Finally, we ask you keep an open mind on the subject and accept that some may be less comfortable with this topic than yourself.
I. Introduction Death is by definition the state the follows life. Over the Centuries, theologists and philosophers have given various definitions. Most tend to agree death to be the end of life. Religious institutions however, view Death differently. Some announce death only to be the natural next step in the greater scheme of life and afterlife. As such, Death is simply a shift between life and afterlife. Afterlife is the belief that life continues in some spiritual form after the biological death of the body. Different religions have given different definitions and explanations of Afterlife.
II. What is the Afterlife? Some religions pose that once our body ceases to function, a spiritual form personnified by a soul leaves the mortal plane to ascend to an Astral plane. These religions express that the life lived shows in the soul. As such, wrong doers would be punished and good doers rewarded. Other religions admit an idea of reincarnation. Once a body dead, the spirit would enter a new body at the moment of birth or conception, and thus perpetuating a sort of life cycle. These religions also insist on the punishing of evil. Examples would be reincarnation into "lowly" life forms or reincarnatin into a diseased or disfunctional body. Some however, prefer the idea of there being no Afterlife - that once the body ceases to function everything ends there and then. This however is in direct confrontation with the religions and beliefs sus-mentionned. The issue is then what happens to those who haven't respected the moral codes of society. Are the bad punished and the good rewarded? Believers also plead a cause of unfairness in this hypothesis
III. Where You Come In What are your views on Death? Do you believe in some sort of Afterlife? If so, why and how do you see it? Are your views similar to those of your surroundings or to your reglion? Or are they rather a personal opinion forged with time spent pondering on the issue? |

| The latter.... Show me someone known to be visiting us from the afterlife. Show me some scientific evidence proving it is possible. Reglion....Gimme a break. By far the largest money grossing scheme in the world. I feel sorry for those that fall victim to this BS. And I should feel sorry for them because they do not nuster enough self belief in themselves to see past relying on some "superhero" to guide them. What a joke..... | |
